Mykito and I were walking down the street after we left his place. I didn’t know exactly where we were headed. I was slightly nervous and slightly excited at the same time. I wasn’t sure what to expect next.
“So, what exactly is your plan? Where are we headed?” I asked.
“Just follow me.” He answered.
My anxiety was building. I could feel my heart start to race. I was realizing that I was putting a lot of trust in Mykito. I started to think about what had happened when I trusted that guy John. That didn’t end too well. Mykito seemed different though. I truly didn’t believe he wouldn’t use me like that. Plus, I didn’t have much time to ask too many questions. We were moving quick and Mykito’s mind was focused on the mission. I remained mostly quiet and followed his lead.
Mykito suddenly stopped and turned to me. He whispered, “Police Headquarters is around the corner. You’re going to create a distraction by stealing one of the cop cars. You’re going to make a scene and then take off with the car.”
I interrupted, “How the hell am I going to steal one of their cars?”
Mykito put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He placed them in my hand and said, “Be super careful with these. You’re going to walk over there clicking unlock button. The car that lights up is the car you’re taking.”
“How did you get these?” I asked.
Mykito looked around to see if anyone was listening or walking over. He then leaned in more towards me. “I picked them off an officer the other night. He didn’t even notice. This wasn’t my intention with them. You see, I’m always trying to push the limits. Trying to figure out what the hell this place is. I wanted to see what would happen. Most people around seem so zombie like, even the Police. I figured since I have them and you’re here, let’s use them.”
I was growing both nervous and concern. “Don’t you think they’ve noticed that their gone and are looking for them?”
“They don’t look like they’re making any fuss and they haven’t come looking for me. It looks like business as usual over there.” Mykito said with a smile.
I looked over at the rather calm atmosphere over at the Police Headquarters and saw what Mykito meant. My curiosity for what exactly Mykito had planned was increasing. “So, what are you going to be doing?” I asked.
“Well hopefully by you taking an actual car that it does make a fuss. I want everyone running out of the building to chase you. Yes, I want you to make a scene and become very problematic for them. Then take that problem somewhere else and become a moving a distraction. Then I will run into the building and sneak up and take their helicopter.” Mykito explained.
I became alarmed. “WAIT! WHAT! So, what happens if they shot at me? How does this end for me?”
Mykito rolled his eyes. “Relax! Just try not to get killed and keep moving until you see or hear the helicopter flying overhead. Don’t worry. I’m not going to leave you. Once you see or hear me flying overhead you got to make your way to The Loop. Once I see you on The Loop, I’ll fly over to you, and I’ll swoop you up with rope or something.”
I stared at Mykito horrified and confused. “That’s your plan? Really? You told me you’ve never flown a helicopter before and know you’re talking about swooping me up off The Loop from a Police chase? Oh, and how will I know the helicopter is you? How will I know they didn’t capture you and it’s not them using their own helicopter to get me too?”
Mykito looked at me with a look of bewilderment. I think I had stumped him and made him realize that there were holes in his plan. He took a deep breath and then grabbed both of my arms. “Look, I’m going to need you to trust me on this.”
I started to panic. “How can I trust you when the last I guy I trusted used me as a human shield as he got shot at and you literally just told me before we came here that no one here is your friend. Please tell me. How the hell am I supposed to trust you?”
Mykito grabbed my arms tighter. “Listen, I know this is crazy. I know this scary. But think about it. We got nothing to lose. Worse case we end up back in our beds waking up from another nightmare that we’re still in. Then we can try something else. What’s most important is that we try. We have to try, because if we don’t then what are we doing? What is even happening in this place?”
I knew Mykito was right, but I was still terrified. I remember my fingers shaking as I nodded in agreement. I licked my dry lips and nervously said to him as tears started rolling my cheeks, “I just realized that I don’t think I know how drive a car.”
Mykito just glared at me for a couple seconds. Then he let out a slight chuckle. “You’ll figure it out. Remember, I’m flying the helicopter. Never done that before.”
“That is true.” I said with a chuckle myself.
Mykito got serious again. “Alright. We got to do this, and we got to do this now.”
I nodded. “Okay.”
He put his hands on my face and wiped away my tears. “Listen to me. You can do this. We can do this. We are going to do this. No matter what happens, everything will be fine.”
I continued nodded and then started to walk towards the Police Headquarters. I looked back at Mykito and he waved for me to go. He then hid behind the corner out of sight. I turned back and continued to move closer to the cop cars. My heart was racing. I remember asking myself in my head if this was really happening.
As I approached the cop cars, I looked around to see if I saw anyone. There appeared to be no one around. I started to click the unlock button on the keys. At first nothing was happening. I was getting nervous. I was wondering whether it was going to work or not. I was also wondering if they had taken the car somewhere else because the keys were missing. Then suddenly the lights on one of the cars lit up. That was it. That was the car. I quickly got in. Took a deep breath. Then I started the car. The adrenaline kicked in and our escape began.
